Hosted CRM service provider Salesforce.com Inc. and mobile enterprise software developer AvantGo Inc. announced a partnership Tuesday to bring disconnected access to Salesforce.com applications from PDA devices.
The companies will jointly offer AvantGo Mobile Sales for Salesforce.com, a channel on Hayward, Calif.-based AvantGos My AdvantGo wireless service.
The new service will allow customers to access, update and manage their Salesforce.com tasks, accounts, contacts and opportunities on their handheld devices. All customer information can be synchronized locally to the handheld device. Wireless connectivity is not required.
Salesforce.com offered its own wireless service, known as the Airforce Wireless Edition, late last year. That service, however, requires a wireless connection, according to company officials in San Francisco.
Salesforce.com users with Pocket PC devices can try AvantGo Mobile Sales for Salesforce.com for free for 30 days. Thereafter, the subscription costs $299 per year, though is currently available at an introductory price of $249 per year. Support for Palm OS handheld devices will be available by the end of the month, officials said.
