A Finnish company has developed a platform for mobile messaging designed to enable a business model of “messaging service providers.”
Executives at First Hop Ltd., of Helsinki, Finland, said the Escio Message Gateway supports push-and-pull delivery of SMS (Short Message Service) messages, batch messaging and timed delivery, as well as such extras as sending pictures and logos.
The product is designed for Internet service providers, application service providers and wireless carriers.
In addition, First Hop has submitted a draft proposal to various standards bodies, recommending a common Extensible Markup Language-encoded interface and messaging protocol to be used by SMS providers. The draft can be found at www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-koponen-sms-xml-00.txt.
